happy national day!

while celebrating our nation's 42nd birthday, we would also like to celebrate the launching of 881, the latest dish out by local director roystan tan.

roystan tan's latest film 881 is based entirely on the festival's getai performers whose job is to take to the stage to entertain the spirits of the dead. it is a story about two girls with one dream - becoming superstar getai performers at the hungry ghost festival.

881 revolves around the lives of these flamboyant performers, which the chinese festival has become synonymous with. The stars of this film actually go by the name of papaya sisters, starring yeo yann yann and mindee ong.

getai performances have always been a hit among the older generation, but this film may just create a whole new fan base.

i like hokkien songs, though i may not sing. i like how hokkien sounds to me, though i may not understand. i do not feel a tad shy about telling friends that i go all out to watch getai, as nothing is as close as the heritage so rich and colorful. not to mention the carnival of sequins and feathers. lol.

which is what makes singapore so special and unique.

881 stars qi yu wu, mindee ong, yeo yann yann, may and choy, and liu ling ling.
in cinemas on aug 09.

i get agitated easily these days. dunno why. doc c said its my liver.

"it is veri hot... n wet! u must get rid of the wetness!..."
he said.

it could be just me lah.
or it could be the pple around me.

but i would just think its me. cos seeing things from a different perspective helps. not that it would help lighten the situation much. but it helps you see a different light to it. and at least you know there is a different light, different side.

and then you go: "ooh ok ..."
and then try to get over it.

c is not here this morning, n she wun be around for the rest of today. to everyone else, this may be a reason to celebration. not to me though. i sympathise with her. especially these past few days.

i know she has been through alot these past few days. her very close brother just passed away n she was wrecked to pieces. so much that she looked pale n strengthless everytime i see her. she is, indeed, torn. i suppose it's a matter of time she takes a break. she needed one anyway.

i understand, although i have not gone through such pain before. it breaks you, your heart is so tightly wrapped up with a film of grief, you just feel breathless. and lifeless. and meaningless.

there are so many things that we conveniently take for granted. life, for example. we always selfishly do wat we feel like doing, that we forget and neglect sometimes that it hurts people who love us. it must have been torturous for them too, i believe.

But seriously, at the end of the day, we are hurtin' us.
selfish us.

i dun usually judge people.
i dun even think i'm in any position to judge people in the first place.
i'm, afterall, not perfect too.

but i did today.
i was utterly sick and tired of the whole sucky situation i was in.
still am.

some people just dunno how to feel sorry for what they have done.
or maybe they were just born thick-skin.

i just wanna perform my best in watever i'm doin'.
i make an effort to.
but it seemed so difficult sometimes.

i know i'm capable.
just no proper direction.
which is tiring.
and it sucks.
big time.

i need a break.
arrggg.

my new appointment is more like picking up where i have left off the last time, only to continue taking on a bigger stage this time. it is definitely a good turn for me, as i get to explore new grounds that awaits me.

i am indeed very fortunate and priviledged to have gotten this upstart, as i recognised that it might take others a longer walk to reach where i am now. i am truly blessed to have strengths and supports from all who loves me. especially a someone who always believe in me. no matter what. no matter how. no matter when.

hence i will journey on from here.
not with fear.
but with a new heart.
b'cos i know.
you love me too.

our minds were extremely relaxed today. a day off for us. not physically (most of us are off on weekends), but mentally. it was a day of total mental recharge, at least for me. we needed this break, especially when most of us are constantly under c's unscrupulous presence and pressure.

have you guys watched harry porter yet? dolores umbridge, the new and cute defense against the dark arts teacher, is a splittin' image of c. only pinkier.

nag. yak. nag. yak. nag.

we even declared every c's off day as the eat-in-the-office day b'cos she would always annoy us whenever we 'munch' something in the office and give us the *email treatment (yes. in our spa, there is such treatments too).

*email treatment:
"... hi btw, have i sent u that email regarding "no eating in the office". i'm so sure u know and understood everything in that email, ya? the pantry is actually just next door."

we do love u, c.
to death.

today i went to a buddhist teachin'. my first time of cos. it was really an eye and brain opener for me. i haven't apply to study yet, but was recommended to sit thru a sittin' regardlessly. i felt myself turned spiritual immediately, this mind of mine (a delibrate attempt to pun, if u're wondering) suddenly softened and switched 'kind'. not that i'm not kind of cos... just not so kind at times, if u know what i mean. human unkindness are beyond our natural control, they just come out bad, harsh and ugly. no excuse. not that i'm findin' any. it is just so humane.

i learnt alot from the short session actually. although teacher monk was quite longwinded. ouch, but i was just being straightfoward. but nevertheless, i enjoyed the sittin'. very very very meaningful. we dun talk about just being true to ourselves, but also to the people around us. and intention is a key root to anything u plan to do, be it good (beneficial) or evil (should i say more?)

bottom line is, be good to others the true sincere way. u shall then be rewarded.
not by how much material gains u benefited or profited.
but by how rewardingly happy and contented u can be.
just by helpin' some fellow in need.

u got it or not?

i went to see a tcm chinese physician today and felt really good about it. i have visited one before, but that didn't leave me as much of an impression as compared to this one. this time, i'm talkin' about needle pricklin' into my skin. the chinese physician, uncle c i called him, gave me a preconsultation by checkin my pulse and blood pressure, and more or less to find out abit more about my medical history. he then instructed me to take off my shoes, roll up my jeans to my knees and lie on the bed (medical couch, to be more chim). as i was wondering wat he's gonna do next, he started to feel my head and ask if i was feelin' tired and giddy (which i always do, due to my dear thalassemia beta). i naturally said yes and he then swap the top of my crown with cotton pad and abit of alcohol. before i could hold my breath, he has already pricked the skin on my skull and my two temples. fast!

the next couple of pricks were swiftly but smoothly executed, as he moved his attention down to the rest of my tensed and immobilised body. some points do hurt alot, but they were quite bearable. i admit i was feelin' quite drama, but serously and honestly, i believe i just have very low threshold to pain and discomfort. anyways... he has reached my soles already. ouch.

i was then left on the couch.
alone.
i felt like a voodoo doll.

30mins past and then uncle c came back to unvoodoo me. quite the relief. shiok lor. i walked on solid ground again and felt instantly better, if not healthier. i seriously felt my 'qi' movin' more rapidly (i swear!). no more giddiness. no more pale lips and tired eyes. wow...

a good nite sleep followed. it felt really good hehe! :)
